anna travels - 2013 inauguration

Sorry for the delay in new posts! I have been in DC for the past few days attending the presidential inauguration! It was lots of fun, but the chilly temperatures reminded me that I need to finish my knit gloves asap!

anna crochets - fleur de lis cup cosy

This weekend I made a fleur de lis cup cosy for an LSU fan:

You can find the free pattern for the cosy itself here. I free-styled the fleur de lis, and will try to write out the pattern for this blog soon!

I made the packaging out of a white piece of cardboard.

PS: Made a bit smaller, this pattern would work well as a wrist band for an LSU football fan!

anna crochets - obama cup cosy

I love making these crochet cup cosies (free pattern here) because the decoration choices are endless. I recently made an obama symbol one:

What would you make?

anna crochets - more cup cosies

This weekend I made a few more cup cosies:

You can find the free pattern for the cosy shell here. Also check it out on Ravelry here!

The best thing about making these crochet cup cosies is the flexibility. You can make yours a few rows taller or shorter and it will still work fine. And then of course there is the decoration - endless possibilities!

What would you put on your cosy?

anna crochets - hurricane cozy

Stuck inside because of the hurricane? I spent my afternoon whipping up this crochet cup cozy, and now you can too! (Scroll down for pattern)

~ Cup Cozy Pattern ~

I used Cascade 220 worsted weight yarn and an H/8 5.00mm crochet hook.

Round 1: Chain 28, or enough to fit tightly around your cup, and join to the first chain with a slip stitch. Be careful not to twist your chain!
Round 2: Single crochet in each chain around.
Repeat round 2 twelve times, or until cozy is as tall as you desire. End off.

The heart appliqué pattern I used was from the blog Cornflower Blue Studio.** The pattern has easy to follow illustrated instructions and is available for free here!

** (12/10/14) A reader alerted me that the Cornflower Blue Studio pattern is no longer accessible. I found the same pattern with great instructions on another blog, a creative being.  Enjoy!

anna crochets - yale mug cosy

About a week ago, I crocheted this flower, which was the first time I had crocheted in many years. Since then, I've been looking for another little crochet project. I finally came up with one while in New Haven visiting my boyfriend at school - a crochet mug cosy! Since he goes to Yale, I made him a Yalie cosy.

I had to make it thinner than a normal mug cosy, so it would fit between the handle of my boyfriend's one and only mug.

I muddled my way through crocheting the Y but I think it came out ok. Next time, though, I'll make the cosy larger, with a big space for the handle (like this).

The pattern is based off of those from The Cosy Project, which I wrote about in an earlier post here.

I love all of the designs from The Cozy Project. They are so simple but also so cute!

sick knits, etc.

I was home sick today. As I was lying in bed, I started to think about knitted things that would be fun and functional for sick days. My first thought was a hot water bottle cosy, and I found a bunch of cute patterns online. Here are some of my favorites.

I love this pastel cosy, with double buttons, from The Yvestown Blog. The pattern is available for free on the shop website here. I need to practice my crocheting skills so that I can whip this up!

This hot water bottle cosy pattern, by Christina Pridie, is available on Ravelry here. It is a very clean design, and would be a great way to practice cables.

If you are looking for the reward without the work, this knitted, hot water bottle cosy by LoftLines is available for purchase on Etsy here.

A hot water bottle cosy would be a great project to take on a trip, because you can easily use just one type of yarn. I hope to make one for myself soon -- though lets hope I don't get sick again in the near future!
