anna knits - braided headband update 1

I started the braided headband pattern from LuluKnits I blogged about last night.

I'm using Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky yarn in wild oak, because it is what I had on hand. I'm not sure about the color, but I love the braided cable. I'd like to try it with an even bulkier yarn next time.

It knits up pretty fast, so hopefully I can finish this before the weekend!

knitting, etc. - braided headband

I've been wanting to try a knit headband for a while. (I blogged about it here.) I've also wanted to try the braided knit pattern. So when my sister sent me this Braided Knit Headband from LuluKnits I decided to make it my next project.

The pattern calls for pulling from 2 balls of yarn for size 8 needles, or using bulky yarn. Not sure if I have enough worsted weight yarn in my basket to make 2 balls of the same color, but if so I will start it tonight!

anna knits - fingerless gloves update 3

I finally finished my fingerless gloves!

I am so happy with how they turned out. I used baby alpaca yarn from Block Island's North Light Fibers in a light pink and gray. I used the pattern Adelia mitts, which I downloaded from Ravelry. It was easy to follow.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the gloves came out a little bit long for my hands. But since I opted to make the top border shorter than the 1inch called for in the patter, I think they are okay.

That is all.

jewelry, etc. - blue bracelets

I am obsessed with these bracelets I got for the holidays:

They are by Garnett Jewelry and come in lots of colors. I love how mine add a pop of blue to my outfit.

anna travels - 2013 inauguration

Sorry for the delay in new posts! I have been in DC for the past few days attending the presidential inauguration! It was lots of fun, but the chilly temperatures reminded me that I need to finish my knit gloves asap!

knitting, etc. - knit finger puppets

I saw these knit finger puppets via an Etsy email:

They are so cute, and would make a nice, quick project.

I found many patterns for finger puppets on Ravelry, but one of my favorites is the free pattern Hare Finger Puppets by Twins' Knitting Pattern MiniShop. Pictures by the Ravelry user silvia

hearts, etc. - heart pinboard

The lead up to valentines day, and the days right after (sales!), are one of my favorite times to shop, because hearts are everywhere. Here are some of my favorite heart designs to come out this season. (See more on my Pinterest board I <3 Hearts.)

anna knits - fingerless gloves update 2

I finished one fingerless glove today:

My only complaint is that it is a bit long. I could tell they were getting too long while knitting, but decided to finish the pattern anyway. I did cut the top ribbing short though instead of knitting a full inch as the pattern stipulated.

I particularly like the thumb:

knitting, etc. - knit headband

I think my next project - after these fingerless gloves - will be a knit headband. I love this cabled one from The Sweat Shop of Love on Etsy. (Pattern available here for $2.)

I don't have the yarn needed to make this exact headband right now, but I might try to make one with smaller needles to match the gloves I'm making. Perhaps focusing on the heart motif...

Valentine's Day is coming up!

anna knits - fingerless gloves update 1

This weekend I started a project with the baby alpaca yarn I got for christmas. I decided to make a pair of fingerless gloves.

The pattern is Adelia mitts by Tanis LavallĂ©e, available on Ravelry.

knitting, etc. - beehive knitting

I love this beehive tea cosy I saw on Etsy:

I found a free pattern for a similar tea cosy on Ravelry here. The bees really make the cosy though.

While I haven't knit anything in a beehive pattern yet, it's something I'd like to try. This hat in a beehive shape - though it is called wurm! - is also fun:

Writing this post is making me want honey... time for some tea!

yarn, etc. - north light fibers

My dad got me some yarn from Block Island's North Light Fibers for Christmas.

It is made from baby alpaca, and it is so soft. I am excited to start knitting with it; perhaps a hat, or some fingerless gloves?
